Betty Slattery

With over two decades of service in the Disability Support Industry, Betty brings both experience and passion to her role as Practitioner Team Leader, championing positive behavioural outcomes for people with diverse needs. Recently relocating from the Snowy Mountains region of New South Wales, Betty is highly regarded for her compassionate approach, innovative problem-solving, and unwavering commitment to promoting independence and whole-life wellbeing.

Betty specialises in implementing evidence-based interventions tailored to the unique needs of each individual she supports. Betty’s approach is strongly grounded in neuroaffirming practice, recognising and respecting neurodiversity and ensuring that interventions celebrate each person’s strengths, preferences, and identity. Her extensive work with both children and adults spans schools, residential settings, and community programs, always exploring the unmet needs behind behaviours and working to enhance meaningful connection and social skills.

Betty’s dedication to best-practice support shines through her ongoing professional development. She is a certified Crisis Prevention Institute Trainer and has developed and delivered training programs for families and support teams, including in specialist areas such as sexual health and development education for people with disability. Her commitment to learning and growth-both personally and as a leader-supports teams to deliver high-quality, affirming care that upholds the dignity and rights of every individual.

A strong believer in collaborative, person-centred care, Betty works closely with the team, as they partner closely with families, educators, and allied health professionals to create meaningful, usable comprehensive support plans. She is highly skilled in conducting functional behaviour assessments, developing positive behaviour support plans, and training staff and caregivers to ensure guidance is consistent and meaningful across diverse environments. Betty’s neuroaffirming philosophy ensures every step of support planning is led by the voice, experience, and expertise of the individual.

Passionate about advocacy, Betty works to raise community awareness about the rights of people with disability, the importance of neuroaffirming behavioural support, and the power of inclusive environments. She is an active participant in community events, workshops, and seminars, sharing her expertise to empower others.

Outside work, Betty enjoys spending quality time with her family, reading, and exploring creative projects. Her genuine care and steadfast resolve to effect positive change are at the heart of her work.
